Obama: Geneva talks offer diplomatic via to ease Ukraine's crisis
FXStreet (Bali) - US President Barack Obama notes, via Reuters, that the Geneva talks offer prospect that diplomacy can de-escalate tensions in Ukraine. Obama also said that "Ukraine offered assurances that Russians in Ukraine would have full rights and be fully represented."
Obama added that "question now is whether Russia will use influence they exerted 'in a disruptive way' to restore order in Ukraine." Obama is currently discussing with allies sanctions that can be imposed on Russia if there is no progress, with Reuters noting that "given Russia's past performance, Obama is skeptical."
With regards to any military intervention, Obama said they are not on table, as the situation is not amenable to military solution.
